Community Roots China (CRC) works with underprivileged children in 12 provinces around China. Our programmes include the One Heart Gift Bag, which gives bags to primary aged children, the Bookworm programme, which provides books for schools, and the Educational Sponsorship, which pays the fees for students to attend high school or university.
CRC aims to build bridges between Chinese communities and individuals and corporations operating in China, by creating pragmatic individual programs and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. We provide opportunities for individuals and businesses to give back to society in clear, transparent, and accountable ways.
Shanghai Rende Foundation is the Chinese charity partner of CRC. Rende Foundation was initiated by Amity Foundation (Nanjing) and is a non-governmental grant-making foundation in Shanghai. Individuals and corporations working with CRC will be able to receive an official donation receipt or juan zeng fapiao.
Community Roots China was founded in 2011 by Marie-Lucie Spoke, a Canadian citizen with a Master's Degree in Public Administration. Marie-Lucie joined the Canadian diplomatic service in 1980 and lived in Beijin from 1987-1990, which was when she fell in love with the people of China. In 2006, her and her husband had the opportunity to move to Shanghai. With her passion for the rural children of China, she registered Community Roots China in 2011.
