My school is located in Anlong county, Guizhou province. The school is great. It allows me to have such a wonderful high school experience.

My village is also located at Anlong county.  It’s quite a distance from my village to school.  First you have to make your way through the mountain path for around 40 mins then only you will reach the highway.  From there you can take a shuttle bus which will take you to county bus station.  Single fare per ride is 10 Yuan.  Most of the time I won’t be home until school break.  Weekends are just way too short for going home.

My parents are farmers and cement workers.  Their workplace is not far away from home.  Our home is a double-storey rural cottage of four rooms and one hall.  It is an ordinary house and was built in 1998.  We didn’t undergo any refurbishments until my brother got married last year.  Now there is a total of 6 family members live ordinarily and  happily in the house.  Behind our cottage are fields to grow crops.   Our village is moderately large, houses are spreading out all over the village.

I haven’t come up with any plans after graduation. Now I just want to stay focused and determined while preparing for college entrance examinations. No matter what the result is, I have no regrets because I know I did my best. I want to study architecture Southeast University, which is located in Nanjing, the ancient capital of Jiangsu province. I prefer biology. English was never my strong point I find that it’s rather difficult to master. Although my ideal university is in Nanjing, Jiangsu, but I will always keep an open mind in my college search. Universities in Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi and Harbin are also among my top choices.

As for summer job, I don’t have any special requirements as long as the conditions are not too harsh, I am willing to work for any available position. I am rather patient and can endure hardships. I want to become a construction engineer in the future. Designing towers, or even skyscrapers is my kind of dream right now.

In the past I have received financial aid worth of 11000 Yuan, which have helped eased my parents’ burden from Community Roots China. Most of the money was spent on tuition fees and living expenses. Here I write this letter, to express my sincere gratitude to you CRC and my donor for your generous assistance to my education.

Life Stories

Huang Fumei

"I like reading. My primary school teacher used to say that knowledge can change one's destiny. So born to a poor family, I hope that, through my own efforts, I can get admitted to the university and find a good job afterwards, and thus change my destiny and resolve family difficulties.“

I have a big family with my elderly grandparents, my father and mother, two younger sisters and a younger brother. Grandpa is 71 years old and too senile to do manual work. His job now is to take care of the grandchildren and keep the house. Grandma is 70 years old. She often suffers dizziness due to high blood pressure, which she always has to take medicine to control. We would feel relieved as long as she can take care of herself.

One of my younger sisters is a high school freshman this year and she's a quite good student. Both of us are in high school now and high school costs. Tuition, books, and living expenses all need money. My little brother and the other little sister are in the sixth grade of primary school. Tuition and books are free at that level because the government pays for them. However, we all need to pay for our living expenses, learning materials, and stationery.
